On behalf of the members of the Yuba City Fire Department, thank you for visiting our website.  Since our founding in 1908, the Yuba City Fire Department has built a strong reputation for serving the citizens of Yuba City and adjacent unincorporated areas of Sutter County.  From the fire suppression and emergency medical services, to our emphasis on integrated risk reduction through emergency preparedness, prevention and safety education, Yuba City Fire has always worked diligently to meet the changing needs of our community.  This website is another channel through which we can deliver important information and services in order to further service the community and its residents.

Jesse Alexander - Fire ChiefChief Alexander

Chief Alexander joined the Yuba City Fire Department in January 2020 from the Chico Fire Department where he served as Division Chief in charge of Training and Administration, focusing on emergency management.  He has an Associate of Arts degree from Sierra College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Chico State University.  Chief Alexander began his firefighting career with CalFire in the Auburn area.  In 2001, he joined the City of Chico Fire Department and served on the Department's Rescue Team specializing in Swiftwater Rescue.  He has held key operational positions on multiple high-profile incidents, including the Oroville Spillway Incident, Stoney Fire, Thomas Fire, and Fentanyl-Mass Overdose incident.  Chief Alexander served as Branch Director on the Paradise Camp Fire performing the largest search and rescue operation in California history.  He received his Chief Officer Certification from the California State Fire Marshal board in 2016, and is a registered State Fire Marshal Instructor for multiple courses.

Ali Williams - Division Chief

Ali has been a member of the Yuba City Fire Department since 2001.  During his tenure with the Department, he previously served as a Fire Recruit, Firefighter, Fire Apparatus Operator, Captain, Battalion Chief and Interim Division Chief.  He graduated from the Yuba College Fire Academy in December of 1999.  He is a licensed Paramedic, graduating from the Butte College Paramedic program in May of 2003.  Chief Williams currently serves as the Yuba City Fire Department Training Center Coordinator under the American Heart Association, oversees the department's EMT continuing education program, is a member of the departments Safety Committee and oversees the operations side of the Fire Department.

Josh has been a member  of the Yuba City Fire Department since 2006.  During his tenure with the Department, Josh has served as a Fire Recruit, Firefighter, Fire Apparatus Operator, Captain and now Division Chief.  Josh graduated from the Shasta College Fire Academy in 2000 and received his Associates Degree in Fire Science in 2002.  In 2004, Josh graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.  Prior to coming to Yuba City, Josh spent four years with CalFire in the Shasta- Trinity Unit, two years with the City of Redding Fire Department and also worked two years as a Staff Writer in the public Education Office of CalFire in downtown Sacramento.  Josh currently serves as the CAL-JAC Training Coordinator and oversees the Department's Training, Emergency Preparedness, Risk Reduction, Administration and Prevention Programs.



Eric Hankins - Battalion ChiefHankins

Eric has been a member of the Yuba City Fire Department since 2000.  During his tenure with the Department, he has served as a Firefighter, Equipment Operator, Fire Captain, and now Battalion Chief.  He also previously served as a Fire Equipment Operator with the Meridian Fire Protection District and the Sutter County Fire Department, and an EMT-1 with Bi-County Ambulance. He is a graduate of the Butte College Fire Academy.  Eric has been a Fire Technology Instructor Assistant for Yuba Community College for approximately 15 years.  He also serves as a member of the Department's Tactical Emergency Medical Service Team, which provides emergency medical support to the Yuba City Police Department's SWAT Team, and the Advance Technical Rescue (ATR) Team.  He is the A shift Battalion Chief.

Mike has been a member of the Yuba City Fire Department since 2002.  During his tenure with the Department, he previously served as a Fire Recruit, Firefighter, Fire Apparatus Operator and Captain.  Mike graduated from the Yuba College Fire Academy in 2001.  He is our OES liaison for our Type 1 Fire Engine and Type 2 OES Urban Search & Rescue Trailer.  He has been a member of the ATR team for 18 years and is currently the lead coordinator.   Mike is also a member of our Apparatus Spec Committee.   He is the B Shift Battalion Chief.



Shane Lawson - Battalion ChiefLawson

Shane has been a member of the Yuba City Fire Department since 2002.  During his tenure with the Department, he has previously served as a Fire Recruit, Firefighter, Acting Fire Apparatus Operator, Acting Captain and Fire Captain.  He has been a member of the department's Advanced Technical Rescue (ATR), Hazardous Materials and Public Education Teams.  He graduated from the Butte College Fire Academy and has his Associate in Fire Science from Butte College.   Prior to joining the Yuba City Fire Department, Shane served as a seasonal Firefighter with the CalFire Tehama-Glenn Unit, as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Corning Rural Fire Department, and was a Teaching Assistant with the Butte Community College Fire Academy.  He is the C Shift Battalion Chief.

Jesse Frias - Fire Marshal

Jesse was appointed to Fire Marshal in April 2018.  He has been a member of the Yuba City Fire Department since 2005.  Prior to his appointment as Fire Marshal, he served as the Department's Fire Safety Inspector / Investigator.  Prior to joining the Yuba City Fire Department, Jesse worked for the Colusa Fire Department as a Fire Apparatus Engineer and Fire Captain.  He holds California State Fire Marshal certifications as a Fire Marshal, Plans Examiner, Fire Protection Specialist, California Fire Code Inspector, and a Certified Fire Investigator certificate.  He is also a former Board member of the California Conference of Arson Investigators.
Yuba City Fire Department's mission is to protect our community through effective and innovative public safety services. The Department applies a proactive approach to fire prevention and encourages all to practice safety every day.  Together we can improve the lives of residents and enhance the stability of businesses by preventing fires and reducing the impact if a fire should occur.  As Fire Marshal, Frias is responsible for the Department's Fire Prevention Bureau.  The Bureau's areas of responsibility include fire code enforcement/fire inspections, building plans review/ development services, public education and community outreach programs and fire Investigations/fire origin and cause determination.



Joshua Hall - Fire Safety Inspector IIJ.-Hall500b

Joshua has been with the department since 2022. Prior to joining YCFD, Joshua worked for the Sacramento City Fire Department as a Fire Prevention Officer II.  He has been in public safety since 2011, when he attended the Yuba College Fire Academy. He has been in Fire Prevention since 2016. Joshua is a CA State Certified Fire Inspector 2, ICC Certified Fire Inspector, a trained Plans Examiner, a member of NorCal Fire Prevention Officer’s Association, a member of the California Conference of Arson Investigators, and an EMT. As a Fire Safety Inspector II, Joshua conducts annual fire inspections, does plan review, new construction inspections, complaint inspections, and fire investigations.

KaleyKaley Bartlett - Fire Safety Inspector I

Kaley Bartlett joined the Yuba City Fire Department in 2019 as the Administrative Clerk.  She held this position until September 2022, when she transferred to the Prevention Bureau as a Fire Safety Inspector I.  Kaley completed all necessary training and obtained her State Fire Marshal, Fire Safety Inspector I, certification in January 2024.  She continues to do extensive training to take her career further and to provide the public with the best life safety information.  Kaley enjoys teaching the community how to be safe at home as well as at their places of employment.






Dianne Wright - Administrative Analyst IIDianne

Dianne has been a member of the Yuba City Fire Department since 2002. During her tenure with the Department, she previously served as an Administrative Clerk, Administrative Assistant, and Administrative Analyst I. Before joining the Yuba City Fire Department, Dianne was an Administrative Assistant for the Colusa Fire Department and a Public Safety Dispatcher for the Colusa County Sheriff’s Department and the Yuba City Police Department. She performs responsible technical, administrative, and analytical work for the Fire Management and department personnel. She brings over 30 years of experience in Public Safety Administration.

 Arechar500Lesley Arechar - Administrative Assistant

Lesley has been working as the Administrative Assistant for the Yuba City Fire Department since March 2023. Prior to this role, she had worked with various local financial institutions for 18 years. Her primary responsibility is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Fire Administration Building and provide assistance to the public with any fire-related needs. Furthermore, with over 20 years of customer service experience, she is well-equipped to handle any customer queries.




FIRE SUPPRESSION

The primary goal of the Yuba City Fire Department is to protect life, property and the environment. Yuba City Fire Department provides fire suppression services out of five strategically located fire stations serving its Yuba City Urban Area response area.  At the direction of the Fire Chief.  Three Battalion Chiefs are responsible for the day-to-day activities performed by the line personnel.  Three Battalion Chiefs and 45 firefighters staff five first-out emergency response fire engines over three shifts.  The current work schedule is a 48/96 shift rotation.  The on-duty Battalion Chief coordinates all of the activities at an emergency scene.  A great portion of the firefighters' daily activities is responding to medical emergencies within the community.  Yuba City Fire also responds to hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues and vehicle accidents, as well as water rescue on area rivers and waterways.  In addition to emergency response, firefighters provide a wide range of services to the community including tours of fire stations, fire and life safety presentations, and fire and life safety business inspections.
